Results, Snowball Crit #1

Snowball Criterium #1, 2011

pictured above: Julie, Leslie, Erika, Avanell, and Emily

17 women showed up to battle it out for the first women's race of the season (at least in Virginia). It was a nice day and we were especially happy to have so many of our own team present, a mix of the Elite and Developmental squads with a huge variety of experience ranging from 1st crit ever (Julie H.) to many years of racing.

So here is what happened... after many attempted breaks, and six primes later, the group held out and the race ended in a sprint. Taryn (Celerity) went to the front on the last lap and pushed a nice pace, Ava got right behind her, followed by Emily. Before we got to the straight away Ava jumped hard and Emily followed her. Ava won the sprint and made it look easy, Emily took second, and Amanda (FF) came in third preventing a sweep (Leslie got 4th). Taryn hung on and came in 5th overall (1st cat 4, pictured below).

Proudly, Erika won a prime and Julie H completed her first crit. Thanks to VBV for promoting the race and giving women an early season racing option!

Many thanks to the companies that also supported the race (and also the next one on March 6): East Coast Bikes, Sock Guy, Polar Bottles, Sport-Wash, Udderly Smooth Chamois Cream, In Motion, Terry Precision Cycling, and Bike Beat.

Thanks also to the women who came out to race, hope to see you again at #2 on March 6.

snowball crit women's race

Last year was the first year the Snowball Criterium had a stand-alone women's race, and we had a great turn-out. We hope you will come out to keep the new tradition alive. Not only is there a trophy, cash, and great prize packages, but the weather looks sunny and its the first local race of the season. There are two races in this series, the first is February 20, the second is March 6.

Last year at Snowball Crit #2

The course is a flat and fast .6 mile circuit with two 90 degree turns and smooth pavement. You can register for the race online, or on the day of the event. The women's race is first and starts at 12:30 PM.

Here is who to thank for the great prizes at the women's race: East Coast Bikes, Sock Guy, Bike Beat, Udderly Smooth Chamois Cream, Sport-Wash, Polar Bottles, Terry, Bon Secours In Motion, and of course Virginia Beach Velo.
