Chesapeake Criterium and PLT time trial made it a double race weekend right in our back yard, we like good races, but we love good races that are close to home!
At the Chesapeake Crit a women's open field of close to 20 lined up bright and early. It took a while for everyone to wake up, but once the pace picked up attacks were made by Vanderkitten VB and Jen R from Kenda. Mid-race Jen R launched an attack that stayed away for four laps or so before VKVB and Fat Frogs pulled it back.
The next serious effort was made with about two laps to, and caused a small break of four riders. Laura and Jen R worked for a lap to keep it away while Emily (Tradewinds) and Sally T (Tripower) sat in. With a little more than half a lap to go Jen R attacked the group & Emily J followed her wheel. The sprint for the line was hard fought with Jen taking the win and Emily taking second.
Close behind was the sprint for 3rd, with Sally out sprinting Laura. The rest of the field sprinted for 5th and I was told Ali I (VKVB) was the bunch sprint winner. Tradewinds rider Tiffany R was looking very comfortable in the pack and finished 9th overall.
PLT Time Trial on Sunday was a nice event, Avanell, Tiffany and Emily were on site with Champion Nutrition MET Endurance for anyone in need of a post race recovery drink. The course was around 23 miles and flat. The heat and wind factor were really not too bad, considering the location. In the end, Tiffany R. placed 3rd in category 4. Emily J raced on her road bike, so she won the Mercx division (which was make-believe :) and got a personal course best by over 3 minutes.
